It's me, Tom

Last year I posted a post hunt video of Randy and I following a blood trail of a deer he shot early in the morning. My favorite part was how he kept excitedly telling “Tom” all the details. https://jadedjoyologist.substack.com/p/the-mighty-hunter

Tom is Randy's best friend from high school. He was our best man at our wedding and they try to get together every year for elk hunting in Colorado. The last few years have not worked out well, with either not getting drawn or being too busy with the house. This year they were lucky enough to get tags and spent a good part of a week in freezing snow only to be iluded. So our freezer is empty and Tom is feeling bad that his friend has had such an unlucky spell.

Randy always shares his hunting progress with Tom so he can root for him vicariously and muse at the difference in long range high mountain and close up low forest hunting. That is why Randy texted Tom Thursday afternoon while up in a deer stand.

This is where it gets interesting. The best way to explain it is just to share the text messages. Here goes.
