Has the whole world gone zany for mushrooms? Or am I just noticing it more now that my patch of home has such a flourish of fungi? When I lived in dry arrid Northern California, I occasionally thought to buy a pack of button mushrooms to sneak into dinner. That was the extent of my relationship with mushrooms. Here in the lush humid low country of South Carolina, the variety of fungi is astronomical. Each one has it's own fascinating characteristics. I can't help but be intrigued. That's my excuse, but what about the rest of the world? Why do I see mushroom enthusiasts everywhere I look? This morning I even found a trippy mushroom Christmas story.

Yes it is amazing how once our attention is on a certain idea or thing. Suddenly it is everywhere around us. I saw a blurb on a certain mushroom found to secrete a specific enzyme that organically dissolves plastic.
