This weekend we decided to go camping and fishing at Santee State Park, just 30 minutes from our house. We hadn't been there since our nomadic year when we explored South Carolina looking for our new home.
Santee is a beautiful campground on lake Marion. We had all kinds of adventures there, from biking in the rain and lightning, swimming and floating for hours in the lake, our campsite turning into a river and washing Alishanee's shoes away, the great shoe hunt and my least favorite but most memorable, getting stung bt 28 ground bees and going out for icecream.
So coming back was a welcome treat and we hoped it would be pleasantly uneventful.
Saturday I was spoiled by all 3 of my ķids coming to visit plus my 2 grandsons. Of course, the grandsons stole the show. As per most really great memories, I didn’t get pictures of the best moments. I decided to write it down so I will have the day forever.
It was so fun walking along with Tommy and Chaska, watching Tommy on his new bike as Connor barreled ahead worrying that Tommy was gaining on him. He wanted to be ahead so badly that he flung his little bike down and ran ahead twice just to make sure he stayed in front. He is very competitive (I don’t think Tommy even noticed).
The rain didn’t seem to bother anyone as we played in the playground, and when the 2 aunties came, we cheerfully followed them down to the water to swim. It didn’t take long for the little ones to turn blue once they were out of the water. So Dad and I scooped them up and brought them back to the RV.
The video is after the boys got dry clothes and I gave them hot cocoa and a banana as we waited for everyone else to come back.
After everyone returned we started cooking hot dogs and burgers and just enjoying the silliness.
Pictures or no pictures, I want to remember Tommy asking everyone not to make him eat a peanut so he won’t get bumps, both of the boys insisting Alishanee squeeze mustard into their mouths and both boys acting like they liked it, Miakoda pointing out how the boys will probably remember this adventure and think they stayed all night, and most of all, all the love and happy Mother's Day greetings and gifts.
