This week I am on cloud nine hob knobbing with people from all over America and even other parts of the world who have at least two things in common; they love God and they are artists endowed with the desire to create. (Okay, it's not quite cloud 9. It’s Black Mountain, North Carolina, which is the highest elevation I've been in awhile.) Artists and creatives from all over have gathered in the beautiful mountain retreat for classes, encouragement, and fellowship through Matt Tommy's Gathering of Artisans. Matt Tommy is an artist that established a mentoring program for striving artists to better use their gifts for God and realize their artistic dreams. I first discovered Matt Tommy's Created to Thrive program three years ago when I took a mini online course called, Artists Rise Up. It was very inspiring and helpful. He has a podcast where he and other speakers give professional advice and practical tips. It is refreshing to find a community of artists who love the Lord and have a Christian worldview.
This gathering of artisans is such a diverse collection creative saints. Painters, writers, musicians, teachers, students, all with the same glowing enthusiasm to be here. This week, I am participating in three days of workshops to hone my skills and learn new ones and also worship God who is the source of all creation and creativity. One of the main reasons I came was to help me focus and see what plans God has for me and my art.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11
Knowing God has plans for you is not the same as embracing them boldly seeking His will. I am full of doubt about my art and how I should share it with others. I thought this would be a great step towards listening to God and following His direction.
Stay tuned for more artist updates.
