This summer Summerville Artist Guild artists have been having their day in the sun. The Guild recently started promoting artists at the St. George Library with a public reception to meet the artists and view their work.
Photographer, Ervin McDaniel was the first artist to have his work featured in the library show and reception. He noted that he appreciated the opportunity to have his work on display for the public to view. Painter Elizabeth Hargrove had her acrylics featured for June and July and mentioned that she prefers showing multiple pieces at a time. She made the great point that several pieces give the viewer a better understanding of the artist’s work and style.
The St. George Library is a beautiful venue with ample space for hosting artist events. The receptions have been very popular and are gaining the attention of library patrons and members of the community.
This month the library is full of color as the retrospective exhibit of Al Champy’s watercolors and oils are on display until the end of September. That reception will be on, Saturday, August 19th from 11 to 1 pm with refreshments, as friends, family and admirers pay tribute to Al Champy in his posthumous retrospective show. Prints and original art from Al’s extensive career will be available for sale with all proceeds going to his family. The Summerville Artist Guild invites you to beat the heat and take a country drive up 78 to St. George to enjoy the cool space of the Dorchester County Library. With art exhibits changing every two months, there will always be something new to view.
